Tourists to UK forecast to spend record levels in 2016

London UK (hospitalitybusinessnews.com) VisitBritain just published its forecast tourism revenues for 2016. The organization expects a new increase by 4.2%, or 23 billion pounds sterling (30 billion euros). The number of foreign visitors should also rise significantly to reach 36.7 million versus 35.4 million expected in 2015.

VisitBritain is confident it will reach its announced goal for 42 million visits in 2020 and 4.5 billion pounds sterling in additional revenues (5.7 billion euros).

VisitBritain’s advertising campaigns have produced good results and generated 2.5 billion pounds in additional revenues for Great Britain in 4 years. this means that each pound invested in VisitBritain activities produced a return of 21 pounds. To this may be added 630 million pounds generated by VisitBritain as a partner in the intergovernmental campaign “GREAT”.”

The year 2016 will be marked by the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare, with events, exhibitions, shows in his city of Stratford upon Avon and the 20th anniversary of the emblematic pop group the Spice Girls: two extreme examples of British cultural diversity.

In Great Britain, tourism is the 7th economic sector in export and 3rd sector in the services category. Incoming tourism weighed in at 26 billion pounds sterling in the British economy in 2013.
