Battle for control of Crowne Plaza Universal, Orlando intensifies

Orlando FL (hospitalitybusinessnews.com) A legal battle characterized by allegations of fraud, money-laundering, murder and prostitution intensified this week over control of the Crowne Plaza Orlando Universal.

A court hearing Tuesday will determine if the hotel will be overseen by an appointee from a Brazilian court, or a U.S.-court appointed receiver. A recent order to appoint Maryland businessman Mike Marshall as an administrator at the hotel is on hold until then.

The hotel has been run for years by the Brazilian appointee, Francisco Bomfim, who was put in place because an original shareholder at the property — João Arcanjo Ribeiro — was convicted of murder and other crimes in Brazil.
