The first of the 10 hotels to be developed will be a newly built Hampton by Hilton Berlin City East, which will be built and owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and will form part of Mercedes Platz, a complex developed by AEG located opposite the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Mercedes Platz will feature numerous restaurants and bars, a 4,000 capacity event hall and a state-of-the art cinema. Scheduled to open in 2018, Mercedes Platz is projected to attract up to 20 million visitors annually, and its set to become the heart and soul of the dynamically growing urban quarter along the historic East-Side-Gallery. The Hotel will be situated in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, one of the most vibrant districts in Berlin.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said: “Partnering with established developers such as Tristar is enabling us to make significant commitments to the German market – where we now expect significant growth in the coming years. Hampton by Hilton Berlin City East at the city’s Mercedes Platz is a fantastic project with which to announce our partnership. The Mercedes Platz development is putting East Berlin firmly on the map as an entertainment destination and it is testament to this growing reputation of our brands that we will be playing a part.”
Plans for nine further hotels will be revealed over the coming months, all to be located in urban centres across Germany under both Hampton by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn brands. Under the terms of the franchise agreement, the management of the hotels will be undertaken solely by Tristar Hotel GmbH.
Ulrich Enzinger, Managing Director of Tristar GmbH said “We’re pleased to be working with Hilton Worldwide and adding Hampton by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn to the stable of brands which we operate. Our confidence in these world class brands is indicated by the prime location where we will house our first Hampton by Hilton property working with the Anschutz Entertainment Group.”
Featuring 254 guest rooms, Hampton by Hilton Berlin City East will become one of the brand’s largest hotels in Europe and will benefit from all its signature features as well as membership of the Hilton HHonors loyalty programme. The building itself will reach seven storeys high and will be located at Muehlenstrasse 13-19, 10243 Berlin.
Phil Cordell, global head focussed service brands said, “Germany, and in particular Berlin, is fast becoming one of our strongest international markets. Since introducing Hampton by Hilton to the city in 2010, the brand has gone on to announce plans to locate its second largest property in the world here, in the shape of Hampton by Hilton Berlin Alexanderplatz. This property at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, which hosts international sports and artists of the calibre of Taylor Swift and Madonna, is another stellar addition.”
Hilton Worldwide and Tristar GmbH are considering opportunities across Germany to locate nine further properties.
