London England (hospitalitybusinessnews.com) After much speculation in the press IHG has issued a statement regarding it’s possible combination with Starwood.
“Following recent market speculation, the Board of Directors of IHG states that it is not in talks with Starwood with a view to a combination of the businesses.”
In May 2015 newspapers in the UK were reporting a possible IHG deal with a “US Suitor” , although nothing came of it at the time.
With Starwood currently up for sale the rumor mill is running full speed ahead. The current options are:
– Wyndham will buy Starwood – Probably the most likely
– Jin Jiang Hotels of China – Looks like they have money this could be a buyer for Starwood
– Blackstone – They have just sold La Quinta, they are lowering their holdings in Hilton. Probably a long shot thought. They would be more likely to buy Baha Mar in the Bahamas.
– Or Would Starwood Capital come and make a play?
