Cable Beach, The Bahamas (hospitalitybusinessnews.com) April 23 2015 – Another day, another delay.
The Baha Mar project, located on Cable Beach in The Bahamas, was initially scheduled to open at the beginning of December 2014. In August of 2014 the opening was delayed until the first quarter of 2015. Since then there have been numerous dates set and missed.
It is hard to keep up with the new opening dates as they are changing very quickly. As of today it looks like the Baha Mar Casino Hotel will open on July 1, with the other hotels – Hyatt, SLX, Rosewood following a month later in August.
Will they be able to make these new dates is anyone’s guess. If past history is any indication . . . . . . . .
Current reports in the Bahamian media indicate that the relationship between Baha Mar and the contractor (China State Construction) is at an all time low.
Besides being the general contractor China State Construction is also a shareholder via a $100M investment in the project, and they are also a competitor as last year they purchased the British Colonial Hilton in downtown Nassau.
It’s a wait and see game now.
